5 Benefits of Facial Massages + Demo of How To Do A Facial Massage
What is a Facial Massage?
A facial massage focuses on increasing circulation in our face through light pressure applied to the face to stimulate pressure points. Facial massages can be performed by a practitioner or at home and are generally considered safe, effective, and relaxing for most people.
You can perform a facial massage using just your hands or a face massage roller, which helps tone the face and minimize wrinkles. Facial rollers are ancient tools of Asian medicine that help to stimulate healthy circulation and promote healthier skin. You may find that using a lotion or serum with your massage roller allows it to glide against your skin easier.
We offer two massage rollers: Our Rose Quartz Massage Roller & Gua Sha Tool and our Jade Face Massage Roller. Both stimulate healthy circulation in the face, help your products to absorb better, reduce puffiness around your eyes, and feel oh so relaxing on your face.

Facial massage is said to increase circulation in the face, which can create a brighter skin tone, reduce puffiness, and help prevent wrinkles.
A long-term study in Japan of facial massaging using a roller produced incredible results. The researchers expected to find increased circulation but were pleasantly surprised to find that facial rolling improved circulation by as much as 25%. These results came about in response to a short, five-minute facial massage! After five weeks, participants who did a quick, daily facial massage with a facial roller had increased their circulation in their faces and were seeing lasting benefits in both the look and responsiveness of their skin.
Decreasing Lymphatic Congestion
Some of us experience lymphatic congestion in the lower part of our face near our chin and jawline, often called the “jowl” area. All of us have lymph nodes in this area which can become congested, resulting in puffiness or early sagging.
Facial massage can help reduce puffiness in the area and tone the skin by clarifying lymphatic congestion. Some of us may experience tenderness in this area, but over time facial massage can help to lower any discomfort you have in this area.
If you are sensitive to your jowl area, start slowly and use gentle facial massaging until you can work your way up to a firmer touch. Natalie found this to be painful herself at first, but now loves facial massage in this area!

Toning Your Facial Muscles
During the day, we can become tense as a reaction to stress. When our muscles are regularly tight, this can lead to more fine lines and creases in our skin.
Facial massaging gives us a chance to release tension at the end of the day and increases our overall awareness of where we experience tightness and tension. Many of us may clench our jaw throughout the day unknowingly, or you may find that you’re unexpectedly tender or puffy under your eye area. Giving yourself regular facial massages will help with tension and give you first-hand knowledge of where you hold tension, which can help you be more aware of your body throughout the day.
When experimenting with facial massage, we recommend using “lifting” movements that are not pulling down on your skin or hard enough to tug your skin in any direction. Remember, the skin on our faces is incredibly delicate. A light touch is enough to experience the benefits of facial massage.
In addition to releasing tension which can lead to wrinkles, facial massages have a host of other anti-aging benefits. Facial massages can promote better product absorption into your skin, helping your products be more effective!
Here are a few of our favorite products to pair with a facial massage:
- Adore My Face: This 100% natural and vegan oil is a powerful blend of pure Moroccan Argan oil and Evening Primrose oil. It contains sterols, anti-oxidants, vitamin E and has a host of anti-inflammatory properties. We recommend this especially for people with dry, combination, or problematic skin.
- Goddess Glow Cream: This moisturizing cream is perfect for hydrating both your face and neck. It contains Hyaluronic Acid, which holds up to 1000 times its weight in water, making it a fantastic moisturizer that plumps the face, ultimately minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The Goddess Glow Cream is an excellent moisturizer for all skin types.
- Face Firming Serum: Our Face Firming Serum is a must-have favorite of many customers here at Herb Stop. Not only does it have Hyaluronic Acid in it, but it has a powerful antioxidant, CoQ10, which increases the production of collagen and elastin in your skin, giving it a more youthful appearance. We recommend this for people with mature, dry, normal, or combination skin.
On top of helping with product absorption, facial massages may help the skin increase collagen production, which can firm the skin over time.
Last but certainly not least, facial massage is very relaxing. Facial massage can help you calm muscle tension and give you a little “me time” at the end of your day to relax mentally before going to bed.
For even more relaxation, consider giving yourself a pamper night with a relaxing bath or cup of warm, soothing tea in addition to your skincare routine and facial massage.
We hope this gave your some ideas on why we recommend facial massaging. Between the relaxing effects on the muscles to the increased blood circulation to helping your products work more effectively, facial massaging has some great benefits. Give it a try and see what you think!
If nothing else, you’ll definitely feel more relaxed and develop an awareness of tension in your face!
