3 Ways To Use White Sage Essential Oil

White Sage Plants for Essential Oil

What is White Sage?

White Sage is a variety of sage that belongs to the genus Salvia. Its silver leaves and beautiful flowers are native to the Southwest United States and Northwest Mexico. White Sage has been used by Native Americans for the ritualistic purpose of cleansing and removing negative energy. Burning White Sage, known as smudging, has recently been shown to be effective at neutralizing bacteria in spaces as well.

The strong eucalyptus-like, camphoraceous and slightly pine-like scent are what makes this oil so distinct. It yields a yellow tinted clear essential oil when steam distilled. The odor is remarkably close to the scent of the raw plant's leaves. White Sage oil blends well with primarily citrus oils, but also can be enhanced by other sacred plant essential oils, such as Palo Santo.

White Sage is famous for being burned in ceremonies, and more recently by those looking to "clear the air" in new homes, office spaces and even after an argument. Native American's believe the smoke from this plant is carried to the heavens with imbued wishes and desires.

Not all occasions and places are suited for using smoke. White Sage is also available as an essential oil, making this an easy alternative to fire and smoke. I enjoy using this essential oil in rich meditative, clearing and positive blends.

There are many ways to use White Sage essential oil. Here are my 3 favorite ways to use this oil:

Meditation

Before practicing my daily meditation, I like to set an intention. What is the purpose of my meditation? While I am deciding the goal of the practice, I light a candle and add a few drops of this meditation blend. Try this blend before Yoga Nidra, mindfulness or any other meditative practice.

Blend the oils in a small dark glass bottle. Use 3-5 drops in your diffuser as desired.

Monster Spray

Children sometimes complain about monsters under the bed, but what about adults? Monsters can be anywhere - a negative person, an angry person, and a person that drains your energy. Spray those monsters away with this amazing spray - for the imaginary ones under the bed or for yourself after coming into contact with real ones - and invite good energy into your space!

Add alcohol to a 2 ounce glass spray bottle. Add essential oils and shake well. Add water and shake well. Mist as needed in closets, under beds, on yourself or anywhere that needs some emotional clearing. Shake well before each use.

Aura Cleansing

Have you ever felt drained, irritable, or emotional without any real reason to feel that way? Perhaps you feel like the world is against you or that things just aren't going your way. Maybe it's time for a little aura cleansing! Use this spray around your body when you need clearing.
